About Robert Malcolm Photography and Video
Pattern, texture, colour and form are all captured here thanks to light. Photography means ‘painting with light’ and, while it may be a stretch for some to call it art, I always think of it as Artography®. When you see a film the message stays with you deep in your subconscious for some time after viewing. Powerful stuff when you want to get your commercial message across to a wide audience.
To capture an image, fixed in a certain light and time that may never be repeated, has an almost magical feel. To be able to share that moment with many others, so that they can see what you saw, as you saw it, is something that the internet makes immediately possible.
I see art in many things; the musculature of an animal released into an explosion of activity; the movement of finely assembled machinery; the proportions of a building; the guileless smile of a child. All of these inspire my work.
I love food in many forms. Ingredients are exciting in their potential to act as catalysts for creativity. Finished products have sound and feel as well as smell and taste; they crunch or crack, ooze or fizz, warm or chill – or both or even all simultaneously. I try to capture this in both photography and video but you will see a melding of both art forms in our videos.
Discovering carrots with nutmeg, chilli with chocolate (75% cocoa minimum, please) or pastrami with tartare sauce on warm white bread – all are joyous experiences. I try to communicate that potential for joy through photography. With my video work I want to capture the look and texture of the food for you, so that you can appreciate the loving care that so many put into the food that they grow, rear, make and cook with.
If you think that what you do, whatever it is, deserves the very best care and consideration in the way that it’s presented, then you should get in touch with me.
