The delicacy of balance required in sports such as eventing and polo, both of which require instant changes of pace and direction, can be awe-inspiring.

Some animals have to work for a living, others (ours, for example) sort of mooch about, sleep and present lists of demands. Either way they become important parts of our lives. Photographs freeze and save those golden moments of exceptional or unusually quirky activity.

When this high grade bike shop opened on my doorstep I knew that I had to photograph the bikes. They’re works of art on wheels. The geometric nature of the mechanical parts perfectly fitted my intention to concentrate on monochrome shots, with the exception of the softer aspect of the child’s bike, which lent itself to a softer approach.

I love the changing colours of nature through the seasons and the muted colours as Spring emerges are of particular interest to me. Photographs such as this can be used peripherally to emphasise the rural nature of a business as effectively as a country landscape, while taking up less room on a web page or brochure.

Valentine Duggins from www.valentineduggins.co.uk is rarely still! Most solicitors are photographed in their own offices, behind a desk and, often, with books and papers in view. I wanted to produce a photograph that reflected Val as a person more than as a solicitor and removed him from his work environment. I managed to capture a thoughtful photograph of Val whilst he was looking away from me.

Fresh Local Food

I love cooking and try to use fresh local ingredients whenever possible; not only because of the taste, but also to reduce food miles and support local producers. The freshness can be captured in a photo. I can still taste these whenever I look at the photograph, reminding me that I need to go back and buy some more.

The relatively new variety of potatoes, Exquisa, are a delight to eat with subtle earth flavours and a golden skin.
